How Do You Eat Your Corn On The Cob?

Corn On The Cob

I may live in  Los Angeles but I’m Iowa Grown and proud of it!! So today I’m screaming and shouting HAPPY NATIONAL CORN ON THE COB DAY!! I decided that I would show my co-worker just how sweet this Iowa girl is!

Just another way to restore faith in the jester of kindness, one of the things that I love more than giving is the smile and happiness that I see in peoples face when they discover that they are special and that all things in life don’t have to cost you.

Me, I celebrate with corn on a weekly basis not one week goes by that we don’t have corn on the menu in my home!

Buttered Corn On The Cob

Now it’s a little early in the year for Iowa Sweet Corn and the Peaches and Cream variety but, if you can find a good ear of corn this time of year I say enjoy! But the one thing I know for sure is…come July it will be prime time for the Iowa Sweet Corn and if you can get your hands on a few ears from Iowa you’ll be in business, it will be so sweet you can skip the butter if you like.

Growing up in Iowa the corn fields supplied summer jobs to many, after all it has to be picked. The sweet rewards that it offered on the table and in the pocket throughout the summer with an abundance for the Annual Corn Fest (pay admission and eat all the corn you can eat) and the Iowa State Fair. This was one of the main staples that was put away for the winter to carry us through to the next corn season.

I’m The Bubba Gump of Corn!

So weather you like it boiled, buttered, grilled, creamed you haven’t lived until you have corn fritters, pudding or corn chowder made with fresh corn or just a plain on cob straight out of Iowa.

Today June 11th  National Corn on the Cob Day,  go ahead sink your teeth into a cob!Happy Ears to you and don’t forget the toothpicks!!

I love corn on the cob day! We live near some amazing farms with great corn. We eat our corn off the grilled (first we soak it in salted water). So delicious—a summertime staple!

See, I thought I was the only corn freak out there! lol – even though it doesn’t have a ton of nutritional value, it’s damn delicious. I love to de-cob my fresh corn, and put on lots of butter and salt. I also love fresh-made creamed corn, and spanish style corn, and jalepenos in my corn… all that. Awesome post!

So I was about to saw there is NO CORN like MARYLAND corn but I think I’m going to let you have the crown on this one. We love our Eastern Shore corn here….but that Iowa (Peaches and Cream) corn almost made me move..almost!

Be sure to try a little Old Bay on your sweet corn. It will change your life.
